Justin,

We're debating a move to a dedicated box.

Can a dedicated box support the following combination of games? (I am hoping so, it's all the same company)

Bad Company 2
Bad Company 2: Vietnam
Medal of Honor (the new one)

If so, what spec would be required for;

2 x BC2
1 x BC2:V
1 x MOH
1 hot swappable match server (max 32, would be one of the above 3 titles)

Thanks

Yes it can and anything from the Dell R200 and up would be fine. You'd also be able to add another BC2 and MOH to what you've already mentioned.

Note: We can copy across your existing game server installs (with the GUIDs) so that players do not lose the servers from their favourites.

You wont regret changing to your own dedi from KC. It gives you so much more freedom and expansion room and room to change things.
Over the last 14 Months I have rented 4 different priced Boxes (Currently a Dell R300 and an AMD Pro) from KC and they have all been great!!!
You seem to be doing REALLY well as a commuinty/clan with your servers. It makes sense to upgrade to a dedi box now. (Good Prices Too)
Good Luck :)

Justin,

Looking at this from a cost perspective, we've been looking at the Core2Duo Extreme.

If we were to look to host 2 x BC2, 1 x BC2:V,1 x MOH and nothing more, would the Extreme be sufficient? What are the limits of this box?

Thanks

Hi,

It might be ok if you had 2 x 32 and 2 x 16 slotted servers. If you can afford it, I would recommend going for a quad based dedi to provide significant headroom.

Thanks Justin.

One last question (I'm not actually promising it will be the last!), as we would be copying our server files to the new box, what would the expected downtime of our BC2 servers be?

Thanks

Hi,

We could probably do the migration in less than an hour. Note: You will lose the Game Tracker rank as the IP would have to change when moving from shared hosting to dedicated.

We're aware and not that concerned. It was nice to hit top spot, now now that we've done it... meh. ^_^

I'll get back to you soon to let you know if this is a goer or not.

This looks like it might be a goer.

I've got 4 people willing to stump up two thirds of the costs themselves, and we've got a few more members who've pledged additional funds. If this all pans out right, I should be able to order a dedi soon.

http://www.killercre...-poweredge-r200 -- This is the one we've got our eye on.

I assume if we want to move to a more powerful machine at some stage in the future, then that would be easy to do?

Cheers

Afternoon,

You can upgrade at anytime during your term; we take the available credit on the existing service which can then be put towards a fresh month on the upgrade..
