Hey hey

Well it's that time again, due to heavy demand we will be installing another load of new servers.

The spec?

Dell R200
Intel Quad Xeon 2.13Ghz
4GB of ram
160GB Hdd

or

Dell R200
Intel Quad Xeon 2.4Ghz
4GB of ram
250GB hdd

We've yet to fully decide which spec to go for. As it stands I think it'll be the second spec... we'll see. Depending on our available rack space in May, we'll be purchasing between 30-40 new servers. Some servers will go towards replacing game server boxes and the others will be offered as dedicated servers to the masses.

Any new or old customers wishing to reserve a quad, please contact us via the usual channels.

A little update....

Due to the time frame and Dell's release of their new R300 they have upgraded us to the following spec (confirmation tomorrow if the price is right)

R300
Quad X3353 45nm 2.66Ghz
4GB
HDD will probably be 160GB or possibly SAS 73GB 15k drive.

I wish they did retail for £499+VAT for the spec we ordered, would of saved me a few weeks bartering. :)

The base spec starts at £499+VAT on Dell's retail site, the model we got according to their site costs £828.38. incl VAT and delivery.

We've already put the spec and price on our dedi page here http://www.killercreation.co.uk/services/d...-poweredge-r300

Hi KC,

I was wondering how the progress with the setting up and testing of the servers are going?

I heard that you was getting the OS images done and then had to do some stress tests. It's all rather exciting waiting for these to become ready hehe. Our clan leader Lt.Chris has chosen to have one of these servers to replace our current one.

Regards,
Jason

Hi after extensive searching finally i have found somebody who has a similar server.

We are thinking of purchasing a Dell Quad Core Intel® Xeon® X3360, 2.83GHz, 2x6MB Cache, 1333MHz FSB with 4gb ram, 160gb hard drive with RAID 1.

However after countless of times trying to contact Dell they cannot tell us a rough idea of how many amps of power the R200 will use. Their calc on the website does not host the x3360 and a few other things are missing.

I would appreciate some help if you could tell us roughly how much amps your R200 is using at those specs or would you know roughly how much my specs could be using? It would be something atleast which will give us a rough bearing.

Also i notice they mention "Application Loads" on their calc site which has options for: Idle, Scientific, Typ- SPEC Benchmark etc. Would you know what this means at all?

Cheers

Hi

You're spec will be around 0.5 amps, max 0.55 amps with that config.

With regards to "Application Loads", it's fairly self explanatory but refers to the load on the server. Scientfic or benchmark type tests stress components (cpu - ram- hdd) which increases the draw. In our experience, there is actually minimal difference between an idle server and one under heavy load; the psu tends to draw a certain amount regardless.
