We moved to KillerCreation with some trepidation and reluctance as our previous GPS had done everything we needed of them, but they weren't able to provide the EA/DICE gameservers. Our concerns were unfounded.
We rented an IntelCore2Duo Extreme fully managed server. Dedicated Boxes no doubt require individual setup and configuration but it was online in around 6 hours with our requested pair of BF:BC2 and trio of CoD4 servers. Very shortly after we had access to Teamspeak 3, webspace for fast map download redirections, and hosting for our clan's website. Impressively, a day later we had follow up email to check all was in order.
The dedi game server hasn't skipped a beat since. Our clan isn't a heavy user so perhaps we don't put it under a lot of strain. Even so it's always been available, unless the numpty server admin (yours truly), messes up a game config. As a managed server, with access to files restricted due to the EA/DICE rules, we can't change the installed games ourselves, but a quick email to KillerCreation support has seen them swiftly on the case. Indeed with the advent of MOH 2010, we rearranged our line up to take full advantage of the server's unused capacity and currently host 6 different game versions. Meanwhile game patches and updates have occured automatically behind the scenes whilst the admin emails of updates together with this active forum keep us well advised of new developments.
The only slight wobble has been with the webhosting, a service that KillerCreation don't promote, and which was provided to us very much on an "as is" basis. It does the job and has adequate bandwidth, but some functions are locked down very tightly, no doubt for security. That is understandable and has made this a very reliable package much more so than our previous host which was forever offline due to other hosting scripts overloading something. Indeed the single KC hard drive failure was impressively for a "free" service fixed in a day with no data loss.
With regard to the KillerCreation Game Control panel this does everything needed. We have access to every configuration file necessary easily allowing us to add functions like pbbans scanning. The ability to assign sub admins for individual game servers, even allowing them an abiltiy, if desired, to restart servers is great. It's slightly tedious to upload larger files, perhaps for custom maps and mods for CoD4 when you can't have access to ftp due to the EA/DICE restrictions of BF:BC2, but even so it's still very achievable through the game panel file editor functions. All in all it's been very well thought out.
When one dds in tools being developed by KillerCreation and Wolfy, like rweb, it's clear that KillerCreation are very able to go the extra mile in the name of service to their customers.
I'm very pleased to be renewing our dedicated server package for the next 6 months.
