Hi,

Firstly have been an old customer with yourselves for BF2 and BC2, currently we don't have any active servers as my clan are waiting for BF3 to come out. Some general questions:

1. Are you confirmed (or likely to be) a provider for BF3?

2. Will dedicated servers be an option for BF3?

3. Assuming yes to the above and making the assumption that BF3 server requirements will be fairly similar to BC2 (i know this will have to be tested once beta comes out, but just a rough idea would be handy), what dedicated server option would we need for (roughly!):

a) 2 x 64 slot BF3 servers
b.) 2 x 32 slot BF3 servers
c) 2 x 32 + 1x20 slot bf3 servers

Is the spec roughly on a per slot basis? e.g. if a particular spec of dedicated could handle 1x64 slot bf3 server, could it roughly handle 4x16 slot servers?

4. Assuming dedicated server of particular spec will become scarce closer to the release, would it be possible to reserve a dedicated box while they're still available?

thanks in advance,

Hi Monkeyfiend,

Hope you're well.

1) No providers have been confirmed just yet, but yes, very likely.

2) Do you mean dedicated physical servers to run BF3 instances or are you referring to standalone game server slot purchase of BF3? Yes to both anyway.

3) This one is a little tricky to answer as it's a brand new engine and currently we don't have any indication of the resource requirements. That being said, I would expect to see an improvement over BC2 given that the engine is there to support 64 players. A bottom spec quad (Dell R200 and up) would be a min requirement.

4) Generally that is possible but please contact us nearer the time to discuss availability. We will also be bringing in a new line of Dell R310 servers for the BF3 release.

Hi again.

Now that the prices for BF3 shared servers are up. Do you have a bit more info on dedicated server requirements for BF3??

e.g. what dedi would run:

A) 1x 32 bf3 server
B) 2x 32 bf3 servers
C) 2x 64 bf3 servers

Also are there any pre-order dates for BF3 on dedicated servers yet?

thanks,

MonkeyFiend

Hi,

At this point in time, for 64 slot servers we're recommending our new range of dedis available in mid-September: http://www.killercre...weredge-r210-ii

4 x 64 slot servers should be possible on the above configuration. Alternatively, a mix and match to fill 256 total slots that it could hold.

During the beta, we'll run some tests on the Dell R210s, R300s and R200s ranges to confirm their max slot suitability.

There is also another consideration with BF3 that we cannot divulge at this time, so we're suggesting customers wishing to upgrade or purchase new dedis for BF3, should hold off until September 19th.

Many thanks for the reply.

We're probably in the ball park for R200-300's, that R210 II while looking very shiny might be a little out of our price range :)

Will check back around Sept 19th.
