Someone seems to of gotten a copy of Modern Warfare 2 early for PS3 and they have been live streaming it to the public. Something interesting in this video is that it's played completely in third person and looks like it is not spectator or anything of the sorts.

Shortly after the video was release, InfinityWard's Community Manager FourZeroTwo said "It's not something you can toggle on and off in ANY game". The special mode can only be played in private matches -- toggled on or off just like "Hardcore" settings -- or in playlists that are designated for third-person play. Everyone playing in a third-person playlist will be restricted to the viewpoint. "This is just another cool way to play the game," he said, "you obviously will still have the option to play gametypes normal as well."

Assuming it's the same on the PC as it is on consoles, the 3rd person game types will be available on all platforms.
