I have been with a few server providers in the past. I can only say that at most the service has been satisfactory. Maybe I've been unlucky to fall into too many issues in the past, with the company not being much help. A previous gaming clan of mine has been with KillerCreation for a few years and never had any issues. In need of a dedicated server, I decided to take the same route and try out KC.
Before I continue I'll explain what I got. I decided to purchase the Intel Core2Duo Pro package with Unlimited Gaming Bandwidth. It's on offer for £70, which was one of the reasons I picked this package.
I ordered the server at about 6PM on a Monday evening. I noticed that multiple members of staff were online on IRC at the time so I had some feeling they would start processing my order within the hour. After completing my purchase I decided to go make a nice cup of tea, only to return to see that my inbox had already got some messages in. Thinking it was one of those automated "We have received your order and are processing it... blah blah" things, I wasn't too excited - I was wrong, it was actually an email to confirm my dedicated server had been setup. Overall the setup time was about twenty minutes.
Being British, I had to find something to question or query about. I popped on to the IRC channel and started firing a few questions away at the staff regarding the chance to download a game in prepartion for a game server I wanted to run. As soon as I sent my question, Justin swiftly started talking to me. He then notified me he was in the process of patching it and transfered it himself, personally, to the desktop of my server (so I could do what I wanted with it). Half an hour before this I was still going through the order process.
The speed of which the staff at Killer Creation work is fast. Most companies have almost all their staff clock off at five - KC are different, they've always been there for me.
So, here's my little speedy review if anyone still needs something to help decide which server provider.
Setup - 5/5
I could not expect a human being to setup a dedicated server, send me the details and begin helping me out with a query in the twenty minutes KillerCreation did. Something I was truely impressed about.
The order was simple, asking minimal questions and just got my order completed as soon as possible. I wasn't given a load of emails with confusing information. I just got two, one confirming the order had been received and not long after that another telling me the server had been setup.
Cost - 4/5
I'll be honest and say I have found slightly cheaper alternatives to some of the KillerCreation service by other companies. However, you need to take into consideration what you might pay a bit more for here (I'm talking a few quid, if that). That is the only reason I've put a 4 instead of a 5.
KillerCreation is an ISP, with one of the best connections to the UK's main fibre networks I could possibly find. It may be possible to match it if I were to go directly to another ISP, however they usually only deal with customers on a commercial scale (thus being sky high prices). So, an extremely low latency (2ms over 200 mile distance!) and high speeds makes it better than other server providers. You get fast support, I mean really fast. Email sent and replied to within a few minutes. IRC has someone on all day and most of the night I have found. It is worth the small amount extra you might pay here compared to other providers.
Reliability - 5/5
I've not noticed any downtime or high latency spikes yet, neither has my previous gaming clan who also had a dedicated server hosted with KC as well. There are always backup generators located with all of the dedicated servers KC have to offer and the network is most likely setup in a way to balance network traffic.
Overall - 5/5
I know, I know. Nobody is perfect. However, in my eyes KillerCreation will be perfect until the day I'm not happy with something. You may think I'm over exadurating or brown nosing with this post; I'm not. I'll happily wait for the day where someone can tell me that KillerCreation is not a good provider, and explain why. I might be waiting a while though
Thank you KillerCreation for such an awesome service.
Regards,
Jason
