Thanks to KC we've got our BFBC2 server up and running. (I'm actually on the server now but alt-tabbed to type this)

I've changed the server name, got our banner up and our welcome message. It's also showing as ranked with Punkbuster turned on.

So far so good but how do I select Hardcore mode?

Hi,

You have to do this via RemoteAdmin (aka rcon) or via editing the startup.txt within our game panel.

I'll be posting something very soon in this forum to help new users.

Hi,

Editing the startup.txt to include vars.hardCore true does not seem to launch the server in HC mode. To get it working, please do the following

Log into RemoteAdmin IP:PORT and auth with your password

Type: vars.hardCore true [hit enter]

Type: admin.restartMap [hit enter]

Once you've done that, HC should kick in.

Hi. Can you tell me which RCON tool to use to do this. I have BFBC2 CC and it does not allow me to send those commands to the server.

That's using the Python scripts DICE provided.

A much easier way is via BC2 Guardian available here http://g4g.pl/bc2guardian-download

Server settings > hardCore get / set.

Maybe you have an old version.

I used the guardian tool to change settings but they didn't stick after a restart?

Hardcore needs to be set each time the server restarts. There is a var in the startup.txt file but it does not work yet.

Hi Justin. Is there a fix for keeping the server cfg on restart now?

#vars.hardCore true
Ours reads that. Does the # have to be dropped?

Remove the # to activate any variable.

Note, as far as I know, vars.hardCore true won't actually launch the server in HC on-boot (unless it was corrected in R10/R11 which I've not tested.)

If it does not work, simply use an rcon based tool to set HC and then restart the map or change level.

Roger that, thanks.

A note on our experience of hardcore so far in the 3 nights from thursday:
We switched conquest to hardcore and didn't get past 20 players, the night after more than 10, night after ZERO.
We turned FF ON on our rush server but left all the spotting etc on and had ZERO players, barely scraping into double figures then maxing at 20 odd tonight.

We always have at least one server full with more than half on the other (and it doesn't seem to favour conq or rush - peeps play where we are).
Is it that all our previous regs favoured FF off or have lives this weekend :D or have been lost in the search browser because both servers are flashing the hardcore skull (even though the rush server was not set to hardcore). It's baffling especially when the majority of top rank servers are running hardcore.

We've put our rush server back to FF off because we are scared it has done too much damage :o

Thoughts Gents please.
